OYO, Nigeria – Oyo State targets direct international flights from Ibadan before the end of 2026 as airport upgrades near completion.
Speaking to newsmen on Saturday, the chairman of the upgrade committee, Samuel Ladoke Akintola said the International Airport is set to launch true nonstop international services once its new terminal opens.
“Those are not the direct flights we promise. Our plan is genuine international departures from Ibadan,” the committee chair says, noting the terminal is nearly half complete.
Runway extensions, night-landing systems and expanded aprons already allow wide-bodied aircraft operations, while cargo facilities are planned to boost exports.
Officials say the project will transform Ibadan into a regional aviation hub, driving trade, jobs and investment.
