Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya
GOMBE, Nigeria – Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, expresses deep grief following a fatal road accident that claimed the lives of seven residents of Lawanti community in Akko Local Government Area.
The victims are reportedly travelling to Maiduguri, Borno State, to attend a wedding ceremony when the crash occurs, plunging their community into mourning.
In a statement issued Saturday by the Director-General of Press Affairs at the Gombe Government House, Ismaila Misilli, the governor described the incident as heartbreaking and a devastating loss to the affected families, Akko LGA and the entire state.
“The sudden loss of lives in such tragic circumstances is deeply painful,” Yahaya says. “No words can adequately console families who have lost their loved ones.”
The governor extends special condolences to several bereaved families, including the District Head of Jalingo, Bello Hassan Babangida, who loses his sister and niece; Idris Lawanti Maigari, who loses his daughter; and Idris A. Isah Lawanti, the councillor representing Akko Ward, who also loses close family members.
Governor Yahaya prays for divine comfort and strength for the families and the Lawanti community, urging them to remain steadfast in faith during the difficult period.
He also asks Allah to forgive the deceased and grant them Aljannatul Firdaus, while calling on road users to exercise caution, especially during festive and long-distance travel.
The tragedy underscores renewed concerns about road safety and the devastating impact of traffic accidents on families and communities.
