KOGI Nigeria – Health advocates warn Nigeria risks reversing gains against HIV and tuberculosis unless governments increase domestic funding amid declining donor support.
The AIDS Healthcare Foundation raises the alarm during an advocacy visit to the Kogi State House of Assembly on Wednesday.
Senior Advocacy Manager Steve Aborisade stresses the urgency of sustained investment.
“Unless we commit local resources, we risk losing the gains achieved,” he says.
Aborisade highlights progress in treatment but warns that over-reliance on international donors threatens long-term sustainability.
He calls for stronger collaboration between government, civil society and development partners to mobilise domestic resources.
Speaker of the Kogi Assembly, Aliyu Yusuf, represented by Usman Ochidi, pledges legislative support.
“We will engage stakeholders during budget processes to strengthen funding,” he says.
Stakeholders, including civil society and health officials, echo calls for increased allocation to safeguard HIV and TB programmes.
The warning comes as Nigeria grapples with funding gaps that could undermine treatment access and disease control efforts.
