OYO, Nigeria – Police confirm that four travellers were abducted by suspected gunmen along the Igbeti–Kishi Road in Oke-Ogun area of Oyo State, triggering a security operation to rescue the victims.
The Oyo State Police Command confirms the incident Thursday, saying security teams are already deployed to locate the victims and apprehend those responsible.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, says the Commissioner of Police immediately orders a coordinated response involving multiple units.
“The Commissioner of Police directed the Divisional Police Officers of Kishi and Igbeti divisions, supported by tactical teams, to deploy operational assets to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and the arrest of the perpetrators,” Ayanlade says.
According to police authorities, officers and tactical units are currently combing nearby forests and surrounding communities in search of the abductors.
Security operatives have also intensified intelligence gathering and surveillance operations in the area to track down the suspects.
The Igbeti–Kishi road, located within the Oke-Ogun axis of Oyo State, serves as a key route connecting several communities in the region.
Authorities urge residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could help rescue the victims.
“Residents are encouraged to share useful information with security agencies to assist the ongoing rescue efforts,” Ayanlade adds.
Police say efforts remain focused on securing the release of the abducted persons while ensuring that those responsible are arrested and prosecuted.
