ABUJA, Nigeria – The Association of Resident Doctors in the Federal Capital Territory Administration (ARD-FCTA) has confirmed the partial payment of salary arrears and the Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF) but says its indefinite strike will continue until all outstanding demands are met.
In a statement on Wednesday, ARD-FCTA President, Dr. George Ebong, said the payments represent “the beginning of implementation,” yet several affected doctors were excluded.
He noted that 28 doctors owed arrears ranging from one month to a year received payment two nights ago, while only 103 out of 150 doctors awaiting MRTF support were paid.
Salaries for October were also released on Tuesday, the association confirmed.
Despite the progress, the union insisted that other unresolved issues — including arrears of external resident doctors owed six to seven months’ pay, promotion arrears, skipped steps, hazard allowance arrears, and the CONMESS 25–35 per cent adjustment already implemented in federal institutions — must be addressed.
“We are grateful for the initial response,” Dr. Ebong said, “but the strike continues until all pending matters are resolved. Our demands are fundamental to training, welfare, and the sustainability of healthcare delivery.”
The union urged the government to stop waiting for strikes before responding to welfare concerns.
ARD-FCTA doctors work across 14 district and general hospitals and the Department of Public Health under the FCTA.
