ABUJA, Nigeria – The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has launched a zero-emission electric shuttle service at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, introducing 10 locally made electric buses.
FAAN Managing Director Olubunmi Kuku said, “This initiative goes beyond mobility. It reflects our determination to embrace innovation for cleaner air, quieter airports, and long-term sustainability.”
The buses, produced by NEV Electric, connect passengers to hotels, business districts, and government offices. Shuttle operations run from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. with departures every 30 minutes. Fares are set at ₦10,000 per one-way trip.
FAAN Board Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje highlighted the programme’s environmental impact: “This rollout aligns Nigeria with global standards and supports sustainable aviation development.”
Regulatory approval allows FAAN to expand the service, with plans for up to 100 electric vehicles in Abuja and Lagos airports. The initiative is part of a broader effort to reduce fossil fuel dependence, improve air quality, and modernise airport transport.
Passengers welcomed the service, citing comfort and eco-conscious travel options. Experts say electrification of airport transport is a key step towards climate-friendly aviation in Nigeria.
