Edo Governor, Monday Okpebholo signing asset protection and court restoration bills
BENIN CITY, Nigeria – Edo State moves to boost power generation and economic growth through new partnerships with Chinese firms in coal and mineral development.
Commissioner for Mining Andrew Ijegbai confirms licences have been granted for coal-based electricity projects.
The initiative aligns with Governor Monday Okpebholo’s strategy to expand energy supply and industrial output.
“We are conducting feasibility studies to determine electricity capacity from coal resources,” Ijegbai says.
The state also signs agreements with two Chinese companies to produce cement and ceramic tiles from local clay deposits.
Authorities intensify mineral exploration, aiming to boost internally generated revenue and reduce reliance on federal allocations.
Efforts to curb illegal mining continue, with several offenders already facing prosecution.
Officials express optimism the sector will significantly contribute to Edo’s economic sustainability.
