ABUJA, Nigeria – The United Nations Industrial Development Organisation and its Japanese partners donate advanced 3D prosthetic equipment to Nigeria’s Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board to strengthen rehabilitation services and healthcare innovation nationwide.
The equipment is officially handed over during a high-level ceremony hosted by the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board on Friday in Abuja.
Registrar of the board, Prof. Rufai Ahmad, describes the donation as a major milestone in advancing rehabilitation technology and professional capacity development across Nigeria.
“This project will enhance rehabilitation technology and strengthen the capacity of professionals in prosthetics and orthotics practice across the country,” Ahmad says.
He adds that the equipment will significantly improve research, training and healthcare service delivery within Nigeria’s rehabilitation sector.
The initiative also highlights growing international collaboration aimed at improving rehabilitation services for vulnerable populations through modern healthcare technology.
UNIDO Country Representative in Nigeria and ECOWAS, Philbert Johnson, says the project represents a critical link between humanitarian and developmental efforts.
“It is a pleasure to be part of this project which will contribute immensely to strengthening rehabilitation services in Nigeria,” Johnson says.
Officials say the partnership reflects a shared commitment to innovation, healthcare development and professional capacity building within Nigeria’s rehabilitation industry.
A major highlight of the event includes the presentation of a newly developed 3D-Printed Transtibial Socket to the registrar, demonstrating the institution’s expanding capacity in digital manufacturing and prosthetic innovation.
Delegates also tour the facility to inspect ongoing technological advancements and rehabilitation projects aimed at improving healthcare delivery nationwide.
The latest development is expected to strengthen prosthetics and orthotics practice while expanding access to advanced rehabilitation technology across Nigeria.
