KANO, Nigeria – The Federal Government launches a major innovation drive aimed at converting research ideas into wealth, jobs and industrial growth with the rollout of the Energise Commercialisation Now (ECoN) programme.
Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr Kingsley Udeh, says the initiative seeks to bridge the gap between innovation and market value.
“ECoN connects ideas to industry, investors and real economic impact,” he says.
The programme, flagged off in Kano, focuses on key sectors including agriculture, health, energy, ICT and manufacturing.
It is implemented in partnership with institutions such as the National Board for Technology Incubation and the National Biotechnology Development Agency.
Officials say the initiative will strengthen technology transfer, expand funding access and accelerate commercialisation of innovations.
The Kano rollout targets the North West, with the government aiming for inclusive regional participation.
“This is a national movement to unlock Nigeria’s innovation potential,” Udeh adds.
Backed by the Federal Government’s economic diversification agenda, ECoN is expected to boost job creation and position Nigeria as a hub for technological enterprise.
