ABUJA, Nigeria – The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, World Health Organization and World Organisation for Animal Health launch a joint taskforce to strengthen global workforce capacity for One Health implementation.
In a joint statement, the agencies say the FAO/WHO/WOAH One Health Learning Taskforce aims to equip professionals with cross-sector skills to tackle complex health threats at the human–animal–environment interface.
The initiative adopts a competency-based, learner-centred model to support both formal education and continuous professional development.
“The growing need… requires cross-cutting competencies to prevent, detect and respond to complex health threats,” the statement says.
The taskforce will leverage platforms such as the FAO eLearning Academy, WHO Academy and WOAH Training Platform to harmonise learning tools and improve coordination.
It will also provide technical guidance, promote collaboration across governments, academia, civil society and the private sector, and reduce fragmentation in health training systems.
Officials say the move reinforces global efforts to build resilient health systems through a skilled and coordinated workforce capable of addressing emerging risks across sectors.
