Minister of Information, Muhammad Idris
ABUJA, Nigeria – The Federal Government of Nigeria rejects claims that the country is nearing collapse, insisting that security operations and economic reforms are yielding measurable progress.
Speaking at the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria General Assembly in Abuja on Wednesday, Information Minister Mohammed Idris dismisses what he calls “overly negative portrayals” of the nation’s condition.
He says intensified military operations and improved intelligence-sharing are disrupting criminal networks, particularly in northern regions. “Nigeria remains resilient despite challenges,” Idris says, noting that coordinated efforts are weakening armed groups and restoring stability in affected communities.
Authorities also report a decline in large-scale insurgent attacks and faster emergency response systems aimed at protecting lives and property nationwide.
On the economy, the minister points to rising foreign reserves and increased revenues from oil and non-oil sectors. He attributes the gains to reforms focused on transparency and fiscal discipline, describing them as necessary for stabilising public finances.
Idris highlights Nigeria’s reclassification by FTSE Russell as a Frontier Market as a positive signal to investors, citing improved foreign exchange liquidity and market conditions.
Addressing broadcasters, he urges responsible reporting ahead of upcoming elections. “The media must inform and unite the public while maintaining accuracy and fairness,” he says, reaffirming support for press freedom while calling for stronger collaboration to combat misinformation.
The government pledges to sustain reforms aimed at strengthening security and driving long-term economic growth.
