LAGOS, Nigeria – Lagos State University Teaching Hospital graduates its first cohort of health management professionals, marking a milestone in strengthening healthcare leadership in Nigeria.
The programme, a Postgraduate Diploma in Hospital Administration and Management, addresses critical gaps in health system governance and efficiency, equipping professionals with both clinical insight and managerial expertise.
“This marks not just academic completion but the beginning of a new leadership chapter,” says Adetokunbo Fabamwo. “Graduates have set a standard and laid a solid foundation for future cohorts.”
Affiliated with Lagos State University, the programme responds to increasing demand for skilled administrators in a complex healthcare environment.
Olubusola Abidakun urges graduates to mentor others, describing administrators as the “oxygen” of organisations. She highlights the need to effectively manage manpower, materials, money and machines.
Representing the Health Service Commission, Abimbola Mabogunje says the initiative is a strategic investment in strengthening healthcare delivery across the state.
Experts say the programme signals a shift towards professionalised healthcare management, critical for improving efficiency, accountability and service quality in Nigeria’s health sector.
