Ibadan, Nigeria – The Campaign for Better Public Health raises alarm over the growing number of unregistered health training institutions in Oyo State, warning of risks to students and public safety.
In a statement on Friday, the group urges the Oyo State Ministry of Education and the National Board for Technical Education to investigate and shut down illegal colleges operating without accreditation.
According to CBPH, only Oyo State College of Health Science and Technology, Eleyele, and Iseyin College of Science and Health Technology are currently recognised by NBTE.
Director of Public Communication Anthony Ojo lists several alleged unapproved institutions, including Ajorosun College of Health, Wecare College of Health, and Covenant College of Health, among others.
“All these private colleges are not listed in the approved list of NBTE and are currently running various courses,” Ojo says. “It is a pity that most parents and guardians are unaware.”
He warns that students enrolled in such institutions risk obtaining invalid qualifications, potentially undermining healthcare standards.
“We call on the Oyo State government to conduct due diligence through verification with the Ministry of Education,” he adds.
Education analysts say the proliferation of unregulated training centres could weaken Nigeria’s healthcare workforce if left unchecked.
