AKURE, Nigeria – The Nigerian Medical Association raises alarm over worsening insecurity after three nurses were abducted in Ondo State.
Gunmen attack a primary health centre in Oke Ijebu, robbing and kidnapping the victims before abandoning them along the Ondo–Akure Expressway. They are later rescued by Amotekun Corps operatives.
State NMA chairman Alonge Olumuyiwa in a statement on Tuesday condemned the incident, warning that health workers are increasingly targeted.
“This represents a troubling development… those saving lives are now victims,” he says.
The association links the attack to rising kidnappings across the state, urging stronger protection for health facilities.
It calls for increased funding for security agencies and the creation of a comprehensive security plan, stressing that healthcare delivery is at risk.
“We urge the government to treat this matter with urgency,” the statement adds.
