IMO, Nigeria – Nigerian naval forces dismantle a suspected bomb-making cell linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network, during a clearance operation in Orsu, Imo State, authorities say on Sunday.
The operation, led by Naval Base Oguta Tactical Patrol Squadron alongside other security agencies, targets hideouts along the Orsu–Ihiteukwa axis, including the Mother Valley area.
Troops discover multiple improvised explosive devices (IEDs), confirming what officials describe as an organised network operating in the region.
A subsequent sweep uncovers a facility used to assemble explosives. Naval personnel launch a coordinated ambush, killing two suspects identified as IED specialists and destroying the manufacturing site.
“All recovered explosives are rendered safe and destroyed on site,” says Navy spokesperson Abiodun Folorunsho, warning that the devices pose “grave danger” to civilians and security personnel.
No casualties or equipment losses are recorded among troops. Folorunsho says the mission concludes successfully, adding the Navy remains committed to “aggressive, intelligence-driven operations” to dismantle criminal networks and restore stability in the South-East.
