NLC President, Joe Ajaero
ABUJA, Nigeria – The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) opposes a proposed N6 trillion bailout for power generation companies, warning that repeated funding has failed to improve electricity supply.
NLC President Joe Ajaero says the plan exposes systemic failures, arguing that Nigerians continue to face high tariffs and unreliable power despite previous interventions.
“Continuing to fund a struggling system places an unfair burden on citizens,” Ajaero states.
He calls for structural reforms, including merging the Ministries of Power and Petroleum into a unified Ministry of Energy to improve coordination and address gas supply challenges.
Ajaero also urges the government to suspend the bailout and convene a national stakeholders’ summit to redesign the sector with a focus on public interest and energy security.
