ABUJA, Nigeria – The Federal Government declares Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark the Eid-el-Fitr celebration ending the holy month of Ramadan.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement issued by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.
The minister congratulates Muslim faithful on completing Ramadan and urges them to sustain values of peace, generosity, and sacrifice.
He calls on Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for national unity and stability.
“The virtues of love, tolerance, and giving should continue beyond Ramadan,” the statement says.
Citizens are encouraged to celebrate responsibly and extend kindness to vulnerable members of society.
The government reiterates its commitment to promoting peaceful coexistence and strengthening national unity across religious and ethnic lines.
Eid-el-Fitr marks the end of a month-long fast observed by Muslims worldwide and is one of the most significant religious celebrations in Islam.
