President Bola Tinubu
ABUJA, Nigeria – President Bola Tinubu asks the Nigerian Senate to confirm Taiwo Oyedele, chairman of the presidential tax reforms committee, as a minister in the Federal Executive Council.
The request is conveyed in a letter read during Tuesday’s plenary session by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Tinubu cites Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution as the legal basis for the nomination.
Akpabio says the Senate will move quickly to review the appointment.
“In line with our practice and due to the urgency, the nomination is referred to the Committee of the Whole for further consideration,” Akpabio says.
The president urges lawmakers to give the nomination expeditious consideration, highlighting the administration’s focus on strengthening fiscal policy management.
Oyedele is widely recognised for leading Nigeria’s tax reform initiatives, including proposals aimed at modernising the country’s tax administration and boosting revenue.
Analysts say his possible appointment signals the government’s intention to integrate specialist economic expertise into its cabinet.
If confirmed, Oyedele is expected to play a key role in shaping Nigeria’s fiscal policies as the administration pushes for broader economic reforms.
