Director-General of National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Ayo Omotayo
ABUJA, Nigeria – President Bola Tinubu renewed the appointment of Professor Ayo Omotayo as Director-General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Plateau State, granting him a final four-year term.
Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga confirms the renewal in Abuja on Wednesday.
Omotayo first assumed the leadership of the institute in November 2021 under former President Muhammadu Buhari, with the Senate confirming his appointment in February 2022.
The policy scholar now continues to lead Nigeria’s foremost government policy think tank, which provides strategic training for senior public officials and contributes to national policy formulation.
Omotayo, a Professor of Environmental Sustainability, holds a PhD in Geography from the University of Ibadan, where he studied between 1980 and 1990.
He began his academic career at Lagos State University (LASU) in 1985 and rose rapidly through the academic ranks.
By 1992, at the age of 30, he had already attained the position of Senior Lecturer, marking one of the fastest promotions within the institution at the time.
He later served as Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences from 2012 to 2017 before becoming Director of the Centre for Planning at LASU.
Omotayo held that role until his appointment as NIPSS Director-General in 2021.
NIPSS plays a central role in Nigeria’s governance framework, offering advanced leadership training to senior civil servants, military officers and policymakers while conducting research on national development and strategic policy issues.
