ABUJA, Nigeria – Nigeria’s Rural Electrification Agency earmarks ₦170 billion in its 2026 budget to deliver over 500 power projects, targeting rural communities and public institutions nationwide.
REA Managing Director Abba Aliyu on Friday said ₦100 billion is dedicated to solarising public sector facilities under the National Public Sector Solarisation Programme. “We are deploying hybrid mini-grids to critical institutions, including hospitals,” he tells lawmakers.
The projects include grid extensions, community mini-grids and solar home systems for hard-to-reach settlements. Aliyu reports 85 per cent budget implementation in 2024, noting slower fund releases affected 2025 performance.
House Committee Chairman Mohammed Bukar says lawmakers are satisfied with REA’s plans but will conduct oversight visits to verify delivery.
