KEBBI, Nigeria – Suspected members of the Lakurawa group kill at least five worshippers and injure 19 others after attacking a mosque in Dadinkowa village, Maiyama Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The gunmen strike during evening tafsir shortly after residents break their Ramadan fast, witnesses say. Survivors describe scenes of panic as worshippers flee under gunfire.
“There was blood everywhere inside the mosque,” a resident says, requesting anonymity. “People ran in all directions. It was terrifying.”
Medical sources confirm that several of the injured remain in critical condition at nearby health facilities.
Community leaders say the attack deepens fear in villages already affected by displacement and repeated security threats.
“Our people live in constant fear,” says Mallam Salisu Ibrahim, a local leader. “We just want to pray and live in peace.”
Security agencies deploy operatives to the area, while investigations continue. No official statement is issued as of press time.
President Bola Tinubu has repeatedly ordered security forces to intensify operations against armed groups, insisting citizens deserve to live without fear.
Residents in Maiyama, however, say violence persists despite assurances.
