ABUJA, Nigeria – Nigeria’s anti-drug agency uncovers a string of audacious smuggling attempts, including a fake pregnancy concealment and a cocaine-swallowing courier, as operatives tighten surveillance nationwide.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Sunday says officers at the Seme border intercept a 35-year-old woman, Rabi Muhammad, after noticing irregularities in her abdomen. A search reveals a hollow container strapped beneath her clothes, containing 3,200 tramadol capsules allegedly bound for Benin Republic.
Hours later, NDLEA operatives at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport detain an Ivorian national, Michael Gohouri, after a body scan raises suspicion. He later expels 82 wraps of cocaine, weighing 1.49kg, during medical observation. Investigators say he is promised €5,000 upon delivery in Milan.
In a separate operation, officers arrest Lagos businessman Kolapo Oladapo Raji at his Lekki residence, seizing 89.2kg of high-grade cannabis known as Canadian Loud and a Toyota Hilux. Raji allegedly admits financing international drug consignments for profit.
“These cases show the evolving tactics of traffickers and the determination of our officers,” the agency says, adding that intelligence-led operations remain central to disrupting drug networks.
Authorities warn that drug trafficking fuels organised crime and public health crises, pledging sustained crackdowns across borders, airports and urban centres.
