KANO, Nigeria – Authorities in Kano order the closure of all entertainment centres and Disc Jockey (DJ) operations statewide to ensure a calm environment during the holy month of Ramadan.
The directive, issued by the Kano State Censorship Board, takes effect from 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, 18 February 2026, and remains in force until the end of Ramadan.
In a statement, the board’s spokesperson Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman says the measure is designed to allow residents to observe fasting, prayers and other religious obligations without disruption.
“All event halls, gala houses and DJ-related activities will remain suspended throughout the fasting period,” the statement reads, adding that reopening dates, particularly for Eid celebrations, will be announced later.
The board urges venue owners, entertainers and the public to comply fully with the order, stressing that enforcement is backed by the law establishing the agency.
“This action forms part of our mandate to regulate entertainment activities in line with cultural and religious values,” the statement notes.
Residents are also encouraged to use the period for reflection and devotion. “We pray that Allah grants everyone the opportunity to witness Ramadan in peace, mercy and good health,” the board adds.
The suspension highlights Kano State’s approach to balancing social regulation with religious observance during periods of spiritual significance.
