LAGOS, Nigeria – The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency appeals for public help to locate a TikTok user who reports being raped in her apartment, following widespread outrage on social media.
In a statement on Tuesday, the agency says it is “actively making efforts to reach the survivor to offer immediate support and appropriate intervention”.
The survivor, identified online as Mirabel, shares a video describing how a stranger allegedly forced his way into her apartment, assaulted her and left her injured. The video sparks the hashtag #StopRapingWomen, drawing thousands of responses demanding justice and better protection for women.
In the recording, Mirabel recounts losing consciousness after hitting her head and later waking to find herself being assaulted. She alleges the attacker later sent messages boasting of his actions and threatening that the case could be buried.
In a subsequent video, she says she attempted suicide by ingesting a toxic substance and thanks a friend for saving her life.
The Lagos agency urges anyone with information about her location to come forward, stressing that survivors deserve protection, medical care and legal support.
Authorities reiterate that sexual violence is a serious crime and encourage victims to seek help promptly through official channels.
