OYO, Nigeria – The Oyo State Agency for the Control of AIDS expands grassroots healthcare access, offering free HIV, malaria and tuberculosis testing to traders and residents at Ajegunle Market in Atiba Local Government Area.
The integrated outreach forms part of the state’s disease-prevention drive, according to Information Commissioner Dotun Oyelade. Health workers provide on-the-spot testing, screening and medications for those needing immediate care.
OYSACA Coordinating Director, Dr Wale Falana, says the programme targets people with limited access to conventional health facilities. “Knowing one’s health status, especially HIV status, remains a crucial step in prevention and effective management,” he says, adding that those who test positive are promptly linked to treatment centres.
Falana urges residents to adopt responsible health practices, including regular testing and avoiding risky behaviours. He also commends Governor Seyi Makinde for supporting community-based health interventions. Oyo Takes Free HIV, TB, Malaria Tests to Ajegunle Market
Atiba Local Government Chairman Wahab Adetunji, represented by Supervisory Councillor Salau Musa, describes the outreach as timely, particularly for vulnerable groups. Market leaders Rasak Oyelayo and Alhaja Fasilatu Motunrayo say bringing healthcare directly to traders eases financial barriers and boosts community wellbeing.
