ABUJA, Nigeria – The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has reaffirmed its commitment to safer medicines by training Bayelsa health workers on pharmacovigilance and drug safety reporting.
The two-day interactive training, held in partnership with SLL Pharmacovigilance, included participants from primary, secondary, and tertiary health facilities, alongside members of the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria and the National Association of Patent and Proprietary Medicine Dealers.
Topics covered included Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs), Adverse Events Following Immunisation (AEFIs), and establishing pharmacovigilance committees.
“Patient safety remains at the heart of our mandate, and strengthening pharmacovigilance systems is critical to achieving it,” NAFDAC said.
Participants were trained to report ADRs and AEFIs using both digital and manual tools such as the Med Safety App, Green Book, Yellow Forms, and online reporting platforms.
NAFDAC added: “This training will ensure timely reporting, helping prevent avoidable harm from medicines and vaccines.”
