ADAMAWA, Nigeria – The Adamawa State Government announces plans to recruit an additional 5,000 teachers as part of efforts to strengthen education delivery and expand access to quality learning.
Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr Garba Pella, disclosed this on Monday in Yola during a news conference marking the 2026 International Day for Education.
Pella says the recruitment follows the earlier employment of 2,000 teachers in 2022 and addresses staffing gaps created by new schools across the state. Adamawa To Recruit 5,000 Teachers to Boost Education Sector
“Screening and interviews have already been conducted, and the process began in late 2025,” he says.
He adds that the government has completed 21 Model Basic Education Schools ready for the next academic term and rehabilitated 68 secondary schools statewide.
According to Pella, the Almajiri education system is now integrated into formal learning centres, with pupils receiving instruction in English and Mathematics.
“This reduces the number of children roaming the streets and improves literacy,” he notes.
The commissioner says increased education funding offsets gaps created by the withdrawal of some development partners, calling on parents and communities to support youth-led education initiatives.
