OYO, Nigeria – Police in Oyo State intercept a truck conveying material suspected to be explosive devices, triggering a full-scale forensic investigation and heightened security response.
The interception occurred during an intelligence-led stop-and-search operation in Saki, according to a statement issued by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka.
Officers secure the materials and immediately place them in police custody. Following a briefing, Commissioner of Police Femi Haruna orders a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
“Specialised personnel from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and CBRN Units are deployed to safely secure the items for forensic examination,” the statement says.
Police say a detailed analysis is underway to determine the exact composition of the materials and their intended purpose. The driver of the truck remains in custody and is cooperating with investigators.
Authorities commend the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for strengthening intelligence-driven policing nationwide, noting that proactive operations are crucial to preventing security threats.
The command reassures residents that there is no immediate danger, urging calm as investigations continue.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains fully committed to the protection of lives and property,” the statement says, adding that updates will be provided as new information emerges.
Security analysts note that intelligence-led interdictions have become increasingly important amid rising concerns over illegal movement of hazardous materials across state borders.
