BORNO, Nigeria – Troops of Operation Hadin Kai arrest a 65-year-old woman, Hauwa Abulazeez, over allegations that she supplies drugs to Boko Haram terrorists operating in Nigeria’s North-East.
The suspect is apprehended in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State following actionable intelligence, according to a statement issued by the Joint Task Force, North-East.
Spokesman of Operation Hadin Kai, Lieutenant-Colonel Sanni Uba in a statement on Sunday, said the arrest occurs under Operation Desert Sanity V, a military campaign targeting terrorist logistics and criminal support networks.
“This operation represents another significant success in efforts to degrade terrorist supply chains,” Uba says.
Preliminary investigations identify Abulazeez as a key supplier of cannabis sativa to Boko Haram elements across Askira Uba, Rumirgo, Gwahi, Wamdiyo, Uvu and Gaya communities.
According to the military, the suspect allegedly sources the illicit drugs from Sarti Baruwa Local Government Area of Taraba State, transporting them through established routes before distributing them to insurgents within the theatre of operations.
Security analysts say disrupting drug supply lines weakens terrorist financing and operational capacity, as narcotics often fund weapons procurement and sustain insurgent networks.
The military says investigations continue, stressing that operations targeting logistics and enablers remain critical to restoring long-term security in the region
