ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia – The African Union (AU) confirms plans to hold the 48th Ordinary Session of its Executive Council in February 2026, bringing together foreign ministers and senior policymakers from across the continent.
In a notice published Wednesday, the AU describes the Executive Council as a core policy organ responsible for coordinating decisions of common interest and preparing matters for the Assembly of Heads of State and Government, in line with Agenda 2063.
The meeting is scheduled for 11–12 February 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (EAT), at the Mandela Conference Hall, AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa.
According to the AU, ministers will review the report of the 51st Ordinary Session of the Permanent Representatives’ Committee, deliberate on the Union’s participation in the G20, and conduct elections and appointments to AU organs.
Other agenda items include assessing progress on the Skills Audit and Competency Assessment (SACA) process, reviewing draft legal instruments and addressing institutional governance reforms.
The AU invites members of the media to cover the official opening and closing ceremonies of the session, noting that further details on livestreaming and press engagement will follow.
“Journalists are encouraged to follow official African Union communication channels for timely updates,” the statement says.
The Executive Council’s decisions are expected to shape continental policy direction ahead of future summits, particularly as Africa navigates economic reform, global diplomacy and institutional strengthening.
