LAGOS, Nigeria – The Lagos State Government launches the 2026 electronic registration and payment process for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), setting a January to March deadline for public and private schools.
The Lagos State Examinations Board (LSEB) says the exercise runs from January 26 to March 27, 2026, as part of efforts to digitise examination administration and eliminate physical visits to government offices.
In a statement posted on the state government’s official X account on Tuesday, authorities describe the initiative as a move to improve efficiency, transparency and accountability across the education system.
“The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Examinations Board, has commenced the 2026 BECE e-registration and payment exercise,” the statement says.
Registrar of the LSEB, Adebayo Orunsolu, urges schools to ensure they use their newly issued School Codes during registration. He explains that public junior secondary schools must download the Offline Data Capturing Application from the board’s official portal.
Approved private schools, continuing education centres and institutions with special permission are directed to complete registration and payment via the board’s online payment platform.
Orunsolu says approved private schools and public continuing education centres will pay ₦10,000 per candidate, while private institutions with special permission will pay ₦15,000.
He also advises schools presenting candidates with special needs to notify the board early to enable proper arrangements. Late registration, he warns, will attract penalties, with further details to be communicated through zonal officers.
Education stakeholders say the move reflects Lagos’ broader push to modernise public services through technology.
