LAGOS, Nigeria – Nigeria’s Federal Government has opened applications for the 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Overseas Scholarship Scheme, offering postgraduate students the chance to study abroad in key energy disciplines.
The announcement is confirmed in a statement shared Monday by the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on social media, which says applications are now open for Nigerian candidates seeking MSc and PhD training overseas.
According to the PTDF, successful applicants will study in the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Malaysia, with full funding covering tuition, accommodation, return flights, health insurance and living allowances. Bench fees will also be provided where applicable.
“The 2026 Overseas MSc and PhD Scholarships provide access to world-class training, research facilities and global expertise,” the agency says, adding that the scheme is designed to strengthen indigenous capacity in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
For doctoral candidates in the UK, the PTDF explains that the programme will operate a split-site arrangement between the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna, and selected partner universities, including Robert Gordon University, the University of Strathclyde and the University of Portsmouth.
The Fund warns that the selection process is highly competitive.
“Only candidates who demonstrate outstanding merit and suitability will be considered,” the PTDF says, noting that assessments will focus on academic qualifications, research proposals, professional memberships and industry relevance.
Applicants are required to verify their National Identity Number (NIN), while multiple applications or falsified documents will lead to automatic disqualification.
Interested candidates are advised to submit applications online, with the deadline set for 27 February.
