KANO, Nigeria – Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has expelled 60 students for involvement in examination malpractice, reaffirming its commitment to uphold academic integrity.
The decision followed a review of reports by academic and disciplinary committees at the university’s 43rd statutory Senate meeting on January 7, 2026. The expulsions were officially announced in the Weekly Bulletin published Friday.
“After reviewing the cases, the Senate approved expulsion in accordance with university examination regulations,” the statement said.
BUK emphasised a zero-tolerance policy on academic misconduct, warning that all forms of cheating, regardless of a student’s department or status, would attract strict sanctions.
The university recalled that in April 2025, 62 students were expelled and 17 others rusticated over examination violations, underlining a sustained commitment to academic discipline.
“Maintaining integrity is essential to BUK’s standards. Any student found violating examination rules will face consequences,” the statement added.
The institution’s actions aim to deter future violations and ensure students adhere to rules, fostering a culture of academic excellence and ethical responsibility across all faculties.
