ABUJA, Nigeria – The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has condemned the killing of Emeka Christian in Pune, India, describing the incident as “tragic, senseless, and deeply disturbing.”
In a statement on Saturday, NiDCOM said Christian allegedly died after being beaten by two fellow Nigerians, Chukwudi Okafor (31) and Samuel Eze, following a dispute reportedly linked to a romantic disagreement.
The Commission emphasised that the incident highlights the need for peaceful conflict resolution among Nigerians abroad and the importance of maintaining a positive community image internationally.
“This unfortunate incident is a painful reminder that violence among compatriots, regardless of circumstances, is unacceptable and damages the image of Nigerians globally,” NiDCOM stated.
NiDCOM confirmed it is engaging with Indian authorities to ensure a thorough investigation and that justice is served under local law. The Commission also urged Nigerians abroad to exercise restraint, respect host-country laws, and resolve disputes lawfully.
Condolences were extended to the family of the deceased and the Nigerian diaspora in India. NiDCOM said it would monitor developments closely and provide updates on the case as investigations progress.
