OYO, Nigeria – Security agencies in Oyo State place the Ikoyi-Ile community on high alert following the discovery of a threatening letter warning of a planned attack.
Police confirm the message, written in both Yoruba and English, surfaces outside a residence in Oriire Local Government Area and cites January 20, 2026, as the intended date of violence.
The alert comes days after gunmen killed five government officials during a night raid on a conservation facility in nearby Oloka.
Police spokesperson Olayinka Ayanlade says Commissioner Femi Haruna immediately deploys specialised units across the area. “All tactical and intelligence departments are mobilised to secure the community,” Ayanlade says.

Officers establish observation posts, checkpoints and continuous patrols, while intelligence operatives conduct security sweeps across Ikoyi-Ile and neighbouring settlements.
Detectives from the State Intelligence Bureau interrogate individuals linked to the discovery of the letter as forensic experts analyse the document to trace its origin.
“A comprehensive investigation is underway to determine the credibility, authorship and intent of the threat,” Ayanlade says.
Police assure residents that security remains robust and urge them to stay vigilant without panic.
“There is no reason for alarm. Protective measures are firmly in place,” the spokesman adds.
Authorities call on community members to report suspicious movements or unfamiliar faces to nearby police stations or emergency lines.
Officials insist the situation remains under control as investigations continue.
