Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo
ABUJA, Nigeria – The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, decorates 133 newly promoted Commandants of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), urging them to strengthen intelligence gathering and respond decisively to Nigeria’s evolving security threats.
The decoration ceremony was held in Abuja, with the minister represented by the Secretary of the Civil Defence, Corrections, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), Maj.-Gen. Abdulmalik Jibrin (retd.). Tunji-Ojo describes intelligence as the backbone of effective national security.
He commends the NSCDC for its expanding role within Nigeria’s security architecture, noting that the corps now undertakes responsibilities such as the protection of Very Important Personalities (VIPs), a duty previously handled by the Nigeria Police Force.
“The promotions are merit-based and designed to boost morale and service delivery,” the minister says, assuring officers of the board’s commitment to supporting initiatives that enhance professionalism and performance.
NSCDC Commandant General, Prof. Ahmad Audi, charges the newly promoted officers to mentor junior personnel and shun lobbying. He stresses that merit, discipline and performance will continue to guide promotions and administration within the corps.
