NIGER, Nigeria – The Niger State Police Command deploys bomb disposal experts after an explosive device is discovered along a roadside in Mashegu Local Government Area of the state.
Commissioner of Police Adamu Elleman confirmed the discovery on Tuesday, clarifying that only one explosive device was found, contrary to earlier reports claiming three. “An explosive device was found, and bomb experts have been deployed to professionally evacuate and possibly detonate it,” Elleman says. “It was one device, not three as claimed by villagers.”
The device is spotted by farmers heading to their farms in Ganaru community, Zugurma District, who alert local authorities after noticing the suspicious object planted by the roadside.
Mashegu Local Government Chairman, Jibrin Egade, says security agencies immediately cordon off the area to prevent casualties. “Some farmers discovered the explosive and contacted me. I alerted security agencies, and they have taken over the location,” Egade states.
He expresses shock over the incident, describing Ganaru as a peaceful community with no prior security threats. “We are surprised to see a bomb in our domain. There is no known security challenge here,” he adds.
