OYO, Nigeria – The Oyo State Government has suspended Chief Jacob Adefabi, Sobaloju of Ofiki, over alleged involvement in illegal mining operations.
The suspension, announced on Tuesday, follows accusations that the chief issues unauthorised consent letters to mining firms and permits trespassing into government-reserved forests, violating Executive Order 001/2023.
According to Governor Seyi Makinde’s office, the suspension remains in force pending investigation. “The action is necessary to protect public resources and ensure due process,” says Moses Alao, Special Assistant on Print Media.
Chief Adefabi is barred from the palace of the Onito of Ito and warned against further mining-related activities.
