ABUJA, Nigeria – The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted dust haze and sunny conditions across parts of the country from Saturday to Monday, warning residents, especially those with respiratory ailments, to take necessary precautions.
The forecast was contained in NiMet’s weather outlook issued on Friday in Abuja.
According to the agency, slight dust haze is expected on Saturday over parts of Borno, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, Zamfara and Sokoto states, while other areas in the northern region will experience sunny weather throughout the period.
NiMet said the central region is expected to witness sunny skies with few cloud patches, while the southern region will experience sunshine with patches of clouds.
The agency further predicted isolated thunderstorms with light rainfall later in the day over parts of Abia, Imo, Anambra, Edo, Ekiti, Oyo, Ondo, Osun, Ogun, Lagos, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers and Akwa Ibom states.
On Sunday, NiMet envisaged moderate dust haze with visibility ranging between two and five kilometres over parts of Kano, Katsina, Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, Jigawa and Borno states, noting that the remaining parts of the North would be sunny and hazy.
For the southern region, the agency forecast cloudy skies with sunny intervals in the morning hours, followed by thunderstorms with moderate rainfall later in the day over parts of Bayelsa, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Rivers and Cross River states.
By Monday, NiMet predicted continued dust haze across the northern region, sunny conditions with few cloud patches in the central region, and cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms in parts of Ondo, Edo, Bayelsa, Delta and Rivers states later in the day.
“People with asthmatic conditions and other respiratory issues should be cautious of the present weather conditions,” the agency said, urging residents to stay informed through regular weather updates.
