KOGI, Nigeria – The Kogi State Police Command assures residents of robust security measures across the state as Christmas and New Year celebrations approach, pledging to maintain peace and prevent crime during the festive season.
In a statement issued in Lokoja on Sunday, the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Kankarofi, says the command is working closely with sister security agencies to ensure a safe and hitch-free yuletide. The message, signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP William Aya, stresses that public cooperation remains central to effective policing.
Kankarofi urges residents to stay vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons or activities around homes, businesses and public spaces. “Security is a collective responsibility. We rely on timely information from the public to prevent crime,” he says.
The police chief warns against cult-related activities, illegal gatherings and disorderly conduct, noting that festivities must not become an excuse for violence or disruption of public peace. He also advises travellers to drive carefully, avoid picking up strangers, ensure vehicle roadworthiness and obey traffic regulations, particularly in busy pedestrian areas.
Kankarofi encourages communities to revive neighbourhood watch groups and strengthen collaboration with community leaders and the Police Community Relations Committee. Residents travelling out of town are advised to secure their homes and inform trusted neighbours.
Commending the people of Kogi State for their law-abiding attitude, the commissioner expresses confidence that sustained collaboration between citizens and security agencies will guarantee a peaceful festive season.
