Nigeria House of Representatives
ABUJA, Nigeria – Nigeria’s House of Representatives sets up a seven-member ad hoc committee to probe alleged discrepancies between tax reform laws passed by parliament and the gazetted version in circulation.
The move follows claims by PDP lawmaker Abdussamad Dasuki, who warns that unauthorised alterations could render the laws legally vulnerable.
Speaker Tajudeen Abbas announces the committee, chaired by Mukhtar Betara, to investigate and report back for legislative action.
Meanwhile, the PDP calls for a six-month delay in the January 1, 2026, implementation, citing the need for investigation and public enlightenment.
“This criminal act can erode public trust in parliamentary enactments,” the party warns, urging transparency and accountability.
President Tinubu recently signed four tax reform laws aimed at simplifying compliance and modernising revenue collection, but controversy continues to trail their rollout.
