Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru
ABAKALIKI, Nigeria – Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru announces a ₦150,000 Christmas bonus for every civil servant, regardless of grade level, in a move aimed at easing economic pressures during the festive season.
The governor makes the announcement on Sunday during a church service at the Government House Chapel in Abakaliki.
Nwifuru describes the bonus as a reflection of his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare, despite what he calls constrained revenue inflows. “This is our way of appreciating the dedication of our workforce and supporting them during the festive season,” the governor says.
Turning to politics, Nwifuru assures residents of a free and fair local government election, declaring that he has no preferred candidates. “The will of the people must prevail. I have anointed no one,” he states.
He reiterates that political appointees seeking elective office must resign in line with electoral laws. “If you are contesting for council chairmanship, you must resign as stipulated by law,” Nwifuru warns.
Observers say the bonus announcement and election assurances signal efforts to boost morale and political transparency ahead of the new year.
