WARRI, Nigeria – The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) confirms it has successfully extinguished a pipeline fire in Delta State, three days after an explosion shook communities in the Gbaramatu Kingdom.
The blast occurs Wednesday evening along the Escravos–Lagos Pipeline System near South-West Warri, triggering panic among residents.
In a statement on Sunday, NNPC spokesperson Andy Odeh says emergency crews swiftly isolated the affected pipeline segments and secured surrounding areas. “Coordinated containment measures have been successfully executed, and no casualties were recorded,” Odeh says.
He adds that investigation teams, including officials from the Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, are assessing damage and determining the cause of the explosion.
The NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company, which manages the pipeline, activates emergency protocols to minimise disruptions to gas supply and petroleum distribution.
Officials say the company maintains continuous engagement with community leaders and state authorities throughout the response. “Safety and environmental protection remain our top priorities across all infrastructure,” the NNPC states.
Residents welcome the swift containment, calling for long-term safeguards to prevent future incidents.
