KATSINA, Nigeria – Police in Katsina State record a major breakthrough against banditry after operatives recover two AK-47 rifles, 24 rounds of ammunition and a motorcycle during an intelligence-driven operation in Batsari Local Government Area.
The recovery occurs after officers’ intercept armed criminals attempting to mount a roadblock along the Kandawa–Dankar transit corridor, a route frequently targeted for ambushes and kidnappings. The suspects abandon their weapons and escape following a brief confrontation.
Command spokesperson, Abubakar Sadiq, confirms the incident in a Saturday statement, crediting the success to timely intelligence. “The operatives intercepted the suspects, engaged them and repelled the attack through superior tactics and firepower,” he says.
Investigators are now tracking the fleeing attackers as authorities intensify operations across northern Katsina, where rural communities remain vulnerable to bandit raids. Police say the latest interception reinforces a shift toward intelligence-led policing.
Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, commends residents who provided information and urges continued collaboration with security agencies.
“Community support remains critical. We encourage residents to share timely intelligence to help sustain these gains,” he notes.
The Kandawa–Dankar corridor remains a priority zone as efforts continue to secure communities affected by persistent criminal activity.
