EBONYI, Nigeria – Ebonyi State’s Gender-Based Violence Taskforce has recorded 367 cases of gender-related abuse between January and November 2025, including two deaths, officials disclosed.
Taskforce Coordinator, Mrs. Faithvin Nwanchor detailed the statistics in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria. Cases spanned physical assault, sexual violence, economic deprivation, emotional abuse, child abuse, and inheritance disputes.
According to Nwanchor: “We handled 68 physical assaults, 17 sexual violence cases, 94 economic deprivation cases, 77 emotional abuse incidents, 18 inheritance disputes, 69 child abuse reports, and 24 threats to life, including two fatalities.”
The state plans to expand awareness programs and support services in schools and remote communities where victims face barriers accessing help.
Nwanchor emphasised that gender-based violence stems from inequality and power misuse, constituting a direct human rights violation.
