KANO, Nigeria – Kano State reiterates its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system as it joins other states at the 2025 National Council on Health Meeting in Calabar, Cross River State.
The annual gathering, the country’s highest health policymaking platform, brings together federal and state leaders, development partners and technical experts to assess sector progress and align national priorities.
In a statement issued on Saturday and signed by Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Ministry of Health, Nabilusi Abubakar K/Na’isa, Commissioner for Health Abubakar Labaran Yusuf says the state remains fully aligned with national strategies focused on bolstering primary healthcare, improving disease surveillance and advancing reforms in health financing.
“We are fully committed to ensuring that the decisions taken at this Council translate into real improvements for the people of Kano,” Yusuf says.
He notes that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration continues to prioritise investment in healthcare infrastructure, citing ongoing construction, rehabilitation and collaborative programmes aimed at expanding access to quality services across urban and rural communities.
“Our approach is simple: build stronger systems, work closely with partners, and ensure that every community benefits from sustainable healthcare reforms,” he adds.
The Commissioner explains that Kano’s active participation in Calabar ensures that national resolutions reflect the diverse realities of all states. He says the meeting also offers a platform for cross-state learning and the strengthening of long-term partnerships.
Yusuf affirms that Kano will implement the resolutions adopted at the Council and continue working with federal authorities, development agencies and community stakeholders to build a more resilient and inclusive health system.
