ABUJA, Nigeria — The federal government has ordered the immediate closure of 47 Federal Unity Colleges following rising security threats across parts of the country.
The directive, issued in a circular dated 21 November 2025, was signed by Director of Senior Secondary Education, Hajia Binta Abdulkadir, on behalf of the Honourable Minister of Education.
According to the Ministry, the move aims to forestall any potential security breach affecting students and staff after what officials described as “recent security challenges in some parts of the country.”
All principals of affected schools have been directed to enforce strict compliance and shut their campuses without delay.
