Nigeria First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu
ABUJA, Nigeria – Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has highlighted the importance of listening to children, calling for adults to actively integrate young voices in building a safer and more compassionate nation.
Speaking at a Thursday event themed “Listen to Children: My Day, My Rights”, Senator Tinubu said the celebration aligns with UNICEF’s call for meaningful platforms where children can freely share their experiences and opinions.
“Our children are not only the leaders of tomorrow; they are active contributors to the world we are shaping today,” she said.
“When we truly listen to them, we understand more clearly how to build a safer, more inclusive and nurturing environment.”
The First Lady emphasized that communities thrive when children are protected, confident, and encouraged to reach their full potential. She urged families, schools, institutions, and government bodies to strengthen their commitment to child rights and welfare.
World Children’s Day, observed globally on 20 November, promotes children’s participation in decisions that affect their lives. Across Nigeria, schools and communities marked the day with educational and creative activities including songs, discussions, and child-led presentations.
In a related address, Senator Tinubu encouraged Nigerian women to embrace modest beginnings and develop digital skills for long-term economic growth. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2025 Women ICT Training and Empowerment Programme, she noted that gradual, consistent progress often yields the most durable results.
