Governor Yusuf signing the bill establishing Gaya Polytechnic in Kano.
KANO, Nigeria – Kano State has taken a step toward expanding technical and tertiary education with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s assent to the bill establishing Gaya Polytechnic.
The governor signed the legislation on Friday in the presence of Speaker Jibril Ismail Falgore and Deputy Speaker Muhammad Bello Butubutu, marking what officials describe as a new chapter for youth empowerment in the state.
“This new institution marks a major step toward empowering our youth with practical skills,” Governor Yusuf said during the ceremony. He praised the State House of Assembly for a smooth legislative process, noting that lawmakers demonstrated unwavering support for strengthening Kano’s educational foundation.
According to Director-General, Media and Publicity, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the polytechnic aligns with the administration’s broader mission to enhance access to quality education across all senatorial zones. The governor believes the school will help bridge gaps in technical manpower and stimulate long-term socio-economic growth.
Officials say Gaya Polytechnic is expected to become a hub for innovation, vocational training and practical learning. Once operational, the institution will boost job creation and attract economic activity to Gaya and surrounding communities, positioning the region as a centre for technical excellence.
Dawakin Tofa added that the new institution aligns with Governor Yusuf’s commitment to revitalising education at all levels. The administration’s broader agenda focuses on human capital development, youth skills enhancement and preparing young people for expanding economic opportunities.
“With Gaya Polytechnic, we are investing in the future of our youth and the prosperity of Kano State,” the governor said, reaffirming plans to support the institution until it becomes fully functional.
