OWO, Nigeria – The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) has charged newly inducted nurses from Achievers University, Owo, to uphold professional ethics, compassion and confidentiality while delivering care across diverse settings.
Speaking during the university’s induction ceremony on Tuesday, Registrar of the Council, Dr. Alhassan Ndagi—represented by Mrs. Seun Olanihun—reminded 163 graduating nurses that their practice must prioritise dignity, empathy and patient safety.
“Endeavour to alleviate suffering, promote health and prevent harm,” he said. “Respect patient privacy and maintain confidentiality at all times.”
He also encouraged the graduates to continually upgrade their skills, collaborate effectively within health teams, and adhere strictly to NMCN standards.
Delivering a keynote lecture titled “Nursing in a Tech-Driven World: Opportunities and Challenges for New Graduates,” Prof. Emmanuel Anyebe of the University of Ilorin said technology has transformed nursing globally but must not replace the human touch.
“Compassionate care remains the essence of nursing,” he warned, urging new practitioners to balance innovation with empathy.
Achievers University Pro-Chancellor, Prof. Bode Ayorinde, announced scholarships up to PhD level for ten outstanding graduates and expressed readiness to employ those who wish to join academia after internship and national service.
He commended the graduates’ resilience, saying: “Today, you step into a profession rooted in service, sacrifice and humanity.”
